Packed House for Candidates' Pizza Party

Supporters of Fanwood council candidates Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar packed Nick's Pizza and Deli on Martine Avenue the evening of September 20th for a pizza party fundraiser. A $40 donation got visitors all they could eat pizza, subs and salads, plus beer and wine. More importantly, supporters got to chat with Dan and Jack about life in Fanwood and some of our challenges ahead. Mayor Colleen Mahr, who is also Fanwood's Democratic Chairperson, did a pitch for getting out the vote on November 6th, a sentiment echoed by Jamar Tyndale, Union County's representative for the Obama Presidential Campaign.

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez and Congressman Rush Holt headlined a fundraiser and rally for Fanwood's Democratic Council candidates Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar the night of October 23rd, 2012, at the Fanwood home of Freeholder Chairman Al Mirabella. Both men spent time meeting and greeting supporters at the $47 per person event, in honor of the now infamous 47% Mitt Romney quote. They gave spirited remarks supporting local Democratss in Fanwood and Scotch Plains.

 

In addition to Jack Molenaar (Dan Levine was unable to attend) Scotch Plains Democratic candidates, Kevin Glover for mayor and Colleen Gialanella for Council, were also on hand. And, joining Holt and Menendez during their remarks were NJ Assemblywoman Linda Stender and NJ State Senator Nick Scutari.

 

Senator Menendez is a former Congressman who represented Union County.  Congressman Holt's district will include Fanwood, most of Scotch Plains and Plainfield beginning January 1, 2013, because of redistricting. He is running for re-election.

Democrats from Fanwood and Scotch Plains crowded into the second floor meeting room at the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad the evening of September 6th, 2012, to watch the nomination of Barack Obama for president at the Democratic National Convention and to support their local candidates-- Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar of Fanwood and Kevin Glover and Colleen Gialanella of Scotch Plains.

 

The pizza-and-beer party, sponsored by NJ Assemblywoman Linda Stender and the Fanwood and Scotch Plains Democratic Committees, offered supporters an opportunity to meet the candidates face to face and hear them speak. All the principles addressed the group, which also heard by telephone from U.S. Representative Rush Holt, who is running for re-election to the 12th Congressional District which Fanwood and Scotch Plains will become part of as a result of redistricting on January 1, 2013.

 

In Fanwood, businessman Dan Levine and city planner and former councilman Jack Molenaar are running for borough council. In Scotch Plains, Councilman Kevin Glover is running for mayor and school administrator Colleen Gialanella is running for township council. More on the Scotch Plains candidates here.
